UNP MP elect Ranjan Ramanayke has called on President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to dissolve the Commission to investigate allegations of bribery or corruption.
Ramanayake arrived at the commission on Thursday (August 27th) and attempted to meet with it’s chairman. As he left the premises he spoke to journalists and stated that there are persons within the bribery commission who wish to sweep certain complaints submitted by him under the rug.
The MP elect expressed displeasure regarding the commission not acting on the complaints submitted by him and stated that this could be because the current administration of the Commission was appointed by former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Ramanayake also stated that if the President and Prime Minister do not take steps to dissolve the commission and create a constitutional council in its place he would commence a hunger strike.
