A group of fishermen are staging a demonstration at the Periyakulam Junction obstructing the Trincomalee, Pulmoddai main road.

The demonstration is being staged in protest against the disappearence of a fisherman at the Trincomalee sea.

It was reported on Tuesday August 25 that a fisherman had gone missing over an issue between fishermen who use illegal fishing methods and small scale fishermen.

The missing fisherman is 25-year-old Alagarasa Thangaruben, a small scale fisherman.

On August 23 Alagarasa Thangaruben had sent a text message to his family saying that a group of fishermen who use illegal fishing methods are attempting to kill him.

Outraged by this incident, a demonstration was launched this morning.

The demonstrators are demanding that the authorities look into this disappearance and that the required legal action be taken in this regard. Police said that investigations launched into this incident are still underway.
