A media briefing was convened on Monday August 24 by the Women’s Organisation for Good Governance. Speaking at the event, prominent women activists expressed the following views.

Member of the Women’s Organisation for Good Governance Dr. Nimalka Fernando said that Rosy can strengthen democracy and take forward good governance in this era. She added that they view Rosy Senanayake’s absence in the constitutional council as a loss and hopes that she would be given an opportunity through the national list.

Dr. Nimalka Fernando also said: ”We ask Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to bring her in through the national list, at the same time, Rosy Senanayake has informed us that she is seeking a recount.”

Meanwhile, Kumudu de Samuel of Women’s and Media Collective noted that at this election it was very clear that the numbers of women elected to parliament decreased obviously from 13% to 11% . Kumudu de Samuel also said that they urge the UNF alliance particularly the UNP, that they consider bringing Rosy Senanayake back in to parliament through a national list appointment.
