Convening a media briefing on Monday, August 24, representatives of several parties affiliated to the UPFA expressed the following views.
Former Minister, Vasudeva Nanayakkara stated that the Mahinda- Maithri factions within the alliance still cxists whereas the balance of the power is more in favour of the Maithri faction.
He went on to note that MPs who are keen on working against the UNP are under constant threat of being removed from the party or their positions within the party being stripped on charges of violating the party’s code of conduct.
He added that the opposition is working towards tabling the Audit Act and the Right to Information Act, which is what the people asked for.
UPFA MP-Elect, Wimal Weerawansa questioned about Dilan Perera’s existence in the parliament who was going around speaking about the bond scam and the people who brought bottles of poison.
He added that the current National List is made into a list of orphans, similar to the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage.
UPFA MP-Elect, Udaya Gammanpila stated that the position of the Opposition Leader will be handed over to TNA if the entire SLFP is taken to the government by depicting order and discipline as there will be only around ten MPs from other parties left.
He added that the TNA will receive global acceptance as a result of this and went on to note that they are leaving asude affliated parties and working. He added that the rumour which is being spread that the UPFA is about to be dissolved will not happen for the next five years. So what they do now is, instead of dissolving the party they are not convening the party, he said.
Meanwhile, a journalist asked the following questions:
All of you carried out this election campaign together with Susil Premajayantha. But haven’t you had any discussion with him as of late?
Answer:I have received information that he is to be given a ministerial portfolio.–
Are you’ll divided amongst yourselves now?
Answer:No we aren’t. The fact that some spineless persons have fallen victim to President Maithripala Sirisena’s executive powers is not our problem.–
Do you mean to say that Susil Premajayantha has engaged in a double standard policy while he was with you’ll?
Wimal:Only he knows whether it is double or triple.
