At least 55 people have been killed and 200 injured in a suicide truck bomb attack in Baghdad.

The explosion ripped across a crowded vegetable market in Sadr City, a Shia district in the northeast of the Iraqi capital. According to the police, a refrigerator truck packed with explosives blew up inside Jamila market at around 6 a.m.

Iraq is currently undergoing an upsurge in instability, with the government struggling to contend with the ISIL group . The ISIL overran large parts of Iraq in June 2014 and holds significant territory in neighbouring Syria.
