Forty (40) Indian fishermen who were arrested for fishing in Sri Lankan waters have been released.
Director General of the Ministry of Fisheries Christy Lal Fernando stated that they were released after being produced before the Mannar and Point Pedro Magistrate Courts.
The fishermen were from the Tamil Nadu area.
Fourteen (14) Indian fishermen were presented before the Mannar Courts while twenty six (26) Indian fishermen were produced before the Point Pedro Court.
The Director General of the Ministry of Fisheries says that arrangements have been made to hand them over to the Navy where they will be able to return to India.
