Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra homicide case taken up (Video)

The case on the homicide of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra and four others was taken up before a three-judge bench at the Colombo High Court on Thursday August 6. The three-judge bench, appointed by the Chief Justice, comprised of justices Shiran Gunatilleke, Pathmini Ranawaka Gunatilleke and M.P.B.Morais.

Twelve (12) individuals, including former United People’s Freedom Alliance MP Duminda Silva, who are accused of the homicide of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra appeared in court.

The suspects are being charged for attending an illegal meeting in Angoda on October  8, 2011, the murder of four persons, including Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, attempted murder of an individual and inciting fear with weapons on persons who arrived to cast their vote on the same day.

Prior to the court proceedings, wife and brother of Priyantha Janaka Galaboda, one of the accused reported to be missing presented facts to court. They informed court that Priyantha Janaka was abducted in a white van and has not been heard of since the abduction.

Police then informed court that relatives of Priyantha Janaka had made a complaint with the police over the disappearance.

The judge bench decided that the case is to be heard for three days of each week commencing from October 12. Speaking on the incident, Duminda Silva stated that he was shot first and noted that the truth will be exposed in the future.

Speaking to the media, UNP Colombo District Candidate and daughter of late Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, Hirunika Premachandra, called upon everyone who has information about Duminda Silva but afraid to speak, to speak out and reveal all details. She added that they have no reason to fear because of the Government of Good Governance.
