The number of complaints received by the Elections Secretariat ahead of the upcoming General Election has risen to 732.
The Elections Secretariat said that according to its Complaints Unit, the highest number of complaints had been received from the Colombo district, adding that that number stood at 122.
The Complaints Unit also stated that it had received 44 complaints from the Hambantota district, 31 complaints from the Gampaha district, and 39 complaints from the Kurunegala district.
Meanwhile, the Complaints Unit of the Elections Secretariat also stated that it had received 164 complaints with regard to illegal appointments and promotions made since the declaration of the General Election.
Another 156 complaints have been received regarding the illegal display of cutouts, posters and banners.
Meanwhile the police say that 245 people have been arrested in connection with election law violations. The Police Headquarters said that 212 of these people had been arrested in 89 raid operations carried out in connection to election law violations. The police say that they have received 100 complaints ahead of the general election.
