The Election Policy Manifesto of the United National Front for Good Governance was unveiled to the public at the Vihara Maha Devi Amphitheatre on Thursday morning.
The election manifesto has been titled the Five points programme to create a new country in 60 months. The event was held under the auspices of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe.
The Maha Sangha, seniors of the UNP, political party leaders and many others were present at this occasion.
Its five points centre around growing the economy, fighting corruption, ensuring freedom for all, investing in infrastructure and improving the education system
01. Growing the Economy
The election manifesto looks at a more competitive social economy that is based on a knowledge based human friendly economy rather than a leftist and capitalist economy.
The objective is to create 1 million employment opportunities, establish various super development zones and bring about villages which will be governed by the locals rather than Politicians and Officials.
02. Fighting Corruption
The United National Party which introduces a broad program to eradicate corruption through its election manifesto also pledges to the people that a new police act will be brought under the new Government.
The objective is also to legalize the Financial Crimes Investigations Division thought a Parliamentary Act and also establish University on Crime and Justice of Police.
03. Ensuring Freedom For All
Another point in the 5 point plan of the UNP is that that steps would be taken to introduce a new Constitution.
The United National Party says that measures will be taken to make maximum use of the devolution of power with everyone’s consent under a singular state.
04. Investing in Infrastructure
The United National Party plans to make the Western Province of Sri Lanka as one mega city in the South of Asia and says that a housing development program to build 50 thousand houses will also take place.
05. Improving the Education System
The objective of the United National Party is to create a more educated and knowledge rich generation.
Thereby the five point program ensure the opportunity for all children to receive a higher education despite what their Ordinary Level Examination results are.
The United National Party hopes to introduce a new education act and also pledged to prohibit the use of teachers for other tasks.
The 5 point plan also aims in allocating 6 percent of the GDP towards the education sector.
