JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake speaking at a rally held in Weligama said that if they have represented the public voice in parliament and if they have the vision and plan to build the country, then the public should hand over the country to the JVP.

He also asked that the JVP be given the power to recommence the investigations that have been swept under the carpet and reopen the investigations that are being tried to be covered up.

Speaking further, Dissanayake said that through this they would work towards punishing corrupt rulers for their crimes, adding that therefore Mahinda Rajapaksa would not come into politics again.

Commenting on the former president’s decision to contest the upcoming polls, Disssanyake said:

”He is 70 years old now. He should just stay at home. But yet he is coming back to become Prime Minister. When the next Southern Provincial Council comes about, he will surely contest for the position of chief minister. When that doesn’t happen, he will contest for the Beliatte Pradeshiya Sabha. I am sure he will only stop after contesting for the Beliatte Co-operative.”
