Meetiyagoda gang-rape suspects to be produced in an identification parade

Balapitiya Magistrate R. Jayasuriya has ordered that the three suspects involved in the gang rape of a fifteen-year-old-girl in Polhunnawe,Meetiyagoda to be brought for an identification parade on July 30.

The order was made on Tuesday afternoon, when the suspects were produced before the Balapitiya Magistrate court.

The girl was taken from her home on July 14, allegedly by the sister of a youth who she had an affair with. According to the police, she had taken the girl to Matara and assisted in the gang-rape.

The main suspect in the gang rape was nabbed by the airport police when he attempted to leave the country on Monday and was produced before the Balapitiya Chief Magistrate.

Two other suspects connected to the incident were arrested while at the Ambalangoda Bus Stand and were produced in court. They were remanded until July 30.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital and investigations are underway to arrest a woman and another person connected to the incident.
