The Democratic Party held a rally in Dambulla on July 17 to muster support for its candidates contesting from Matale. The event was was presided over by Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka.

Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka stated they aware that the president, the prime minister together with strong political parties are fulfilling the requirements of good governance and they have the need to do so. However, he said, a majority of persons in those parties are corrupt individuals and whenever a step is taken forward, these corrupt persons pull them back. He noted that therefore it is difficult to bring about good governance and that is why the group of Mahinda Rakapaksa is attempting to rise again.

He added that these corrupt persons do not favor good governance and that is why they keep saying that they need Mahinda Rajapaksa. He added that without this there is no future for the corrupt and there will be no world left for them.

The DP’s Gampaha District Candidate Anoma Fonseka noted they inquired as to whether there were any new faces in the nominations but there were none except for three of four persons, and most of them were rogue and corrupt persons who were there before. She added that among them are persons who have charges and allegations against them.

She further said that it is persons around Mahinda Rajapaksa who import ethanol and even though they are elected to Parliament, they will not stop these acts. She said they must stopped from being elected and that is why the public needs to elect a group of good persons to create a better country.
