Three young women were injured after being attacked by a foreigner at a restaurant close to Maya Junction in Kirulapone on Wednesday.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that a police officer had shot the foreigner who was equipped with a sharp object. The foreigner and one of the injured women are receiving treatment at the Resuscitation Unit of the Colombo National Hospital where two others were also hospitalised

The Police Media Spokesperson also added that the Police had received information that the foreigner, who was an employee of a photo studio close to the restaurant, had a personal dispute with one of the women.

ASP Gunasekera added that the foreigner’s employment at the photo studio had been terminated on Wednesday and that the woman in question had gone to the restaurant, with two other women, in the evening.  Police suspect that the foreigner had arrived at the restaurant thereafter,  and had allegedly attacked the women.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekera said that a police officer who witnessed the incident, arrived at the scene and shot the foreigner to prevent him from causing any further harm to the women.
