The United People’s Freedom Alliance convened a press conference at the Abhayarama Temple in Narahenpita on Friday morning to elaborate on their election campaign.

Leader of the Mahajana Eksath Peramuna,Dinesh Gunawardena stated that the party has the ability to bring about unity and also involve the important character and leadership of Mahinda Rajapaksa for this political battle and that the progressive leftist patriotic forces were invited among the masses to join in this victorious statement .

Leader of the National Freedom Front,Wimal Weerawansa added that President Maithripala Sirisena also was not in favour of spliting the party and therefore both could reach to make a historical accord for unity and this is decisively important.

He added that if you are not afraid of Mahinda Rajapaksa and if you say that he is a rogue, give him the nomination since a rogue can be easily defeated. He went on to state that the main persons involved in the fraud in the treasury bond issue, are coming in the elections as the prime ministerial candidate.

He finally expressed that the Sinhala , Tamil and Muslim communities must cast aside old differences …”

Left-wing politician, Vasudeva Nanayakkara noted that on the 9th, a major rally will reach Anuradhapura and on that day the United Peoples Freedom Allaince will commence the people’s election campaign with Mahinda Rajapaksa.
