Operations are in effect countrywide to crackdown on drug dealers. An operation on Wednesday led to the arrest of a woman allegedly involved in peddling heroin in Kadawatha.
The suspect woman, a resident of Kelaniya, was arrested by police based on a tip off, while she was travelling in a three-wheeler with her two children. Police said that her children were thirteen and three and a half years old and that 1.788 grams of Heroin was seized from the possession of the woman.
Police noted that the woman was taken into custody while she was taking the Heroin, sorted out in small packets concealed in her body, to her husband at the Mahara Remand Prison and that her husband is also a suspect held under remand custody for a Heroin-related incident.
Meanwhile, the Hatton Police were successful in raiding a pharmacy in the town of Hatton which was selling an intoxicant pill to school children. The police says that this pharmacy has been allegedly selling the intoxicant drug to students of several leading schools in the Hatton town for a long period of time.
The owner and the assistant of the pharmacy who were arrested, have been released on bail.
