The Central Environment Authority says that the number of jelly fish found on the beaches of the country have reduced.

General Manager of the Authority, Professor Terni Pradeep Kumara said that this information had come to light after rigorous inspections had been carried out in this regard.

He added that accordingly, those beaches that were closed to the public due to the threat posed could now be reopened.

In the meantime, the National Poisonous Information Unit, said that jelly fish that are found along the shores of the country do not pose a fatal threat to the people.

Manager of Central Environmental Authority Professor Terni Pradeep Kumara said that the data they have received show a sharp decline in the number of jelly fish that are found along the shores of the country. The Ministry believes that the numbers would reduce further.  He stated:

We are optimistic that we may see a sharp decline within the day tomorrow. We are hoping to open the beaches that were closed to the public, after taking the ground situation into consideration.
