President Maithripala Sirisena says national institutions that serve the interests of women and children will be given due respect and state recognition.

The president made this statement in Kolonnawa at the Annual General Meeting of the Diriya Vanitha Foundation under the Kolonnawara Divisional Secretariat, which was held at the National Children’s Education Foundation Sri Lanka in Kolonnawa on June 22.

President Sirisena said  he has been made aware that during the past that such institutions were not given due respect or state recognition. In addition, constitutional and legal changes have not been executed in a proper manner, he said. Therefore, the president added, he hopes to have discussions with the directors in the near future.

He further noted that the venerable director also aspires to have a more efficient work process from the National Children’s Education Foundation Sri Lanka and to create a new legal framework for it. If there is any other work that needs to be done regarding this matter, the president said, he is prepared to work on that too.
