State Minister of Culture and Arts Nandimithra Ekanayake has made a request to the President to appoint a committee to look into fraud and corruption that have allegedly taken place within the Department of Archaeology.
Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake said that he made a written request to the president in this regard. He stated that he had received a number of complaints in connection to archaeological artifacts being stolen or misplaced.
He added that there has been mismanagement in relation to lands coming under the purview of the department. In addition to this, the Minister has made a request for a full investigation and submit a report regarding such matters.
