President Maithripala Sirisena has signed the March 12th Declaration that comprises criteria for political parties to consider when providing nominations for candidates.
The March 12th Declaration is a set of eight recommendations that political parties need to consider when providing nominations.
President Maithripala Sirisena signed the March 12th Declaration as the chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party at the Presidential Secretariat on the evening of Friday, June 19.
The March 12th Declaration was formulated by PAFFREL and the essential common criteria mentioned in the Declaration was that the public representative to whom nomination would be given should not be a criminal, smuggler, or one abuses power and causes destruction to the environment.
Many political parties have already signed the March 12th Declaration. PAFFREL is seeking to obtain one million signatures for the declaration.
