An individual was arrested on the evening of Sunday June 14 for the alleged possession of three kilogrammes of Heroin. The arrest was made during a raid carried out by the Police Anti-Narcotics Bureau in the Wattala area.
The individual was arrested while he was allegedly unloading the stock of Heroin from a luxury car to another vehicle at a supermarket parking lot.
A sum of Rs.2.4 million was also seized, long with the Heroin during the raid.
The arrested suspect has been identified as Kumarasamy Prishan, a resident of Wattala, who was previously arrested on August 19, 2012 and later released on bail for the alleged murder of his father, mother and sister in a house located down Ramakrishna Road in Wellawatta.
According to the police, a renowned drug peddler named Kudu Lalitha had assisted in obtaining bail for Kumarasamy Prishan. Kudu Lalitha was killed in a police shootout in Athurugiriya on September 6, 2014.
According to the Police Anti-Narcotics Bureau, Kumarasamy Prishan had taken over the drug smuggling racket following the death of Kudu Lalitha.
Police further noted that several investigations are underway to apprehend more suspects in the drug-smuggling racket in the Wattala area.

Meanwhile, Ven. Athuruliye Rathana Thero too expressed his views regarding the raid, thanking the relevant officials who undertook the special operation which expanded locally and internationally. Rathana Thero further noted that it is a major issue that the suspect, who is connected to several murders in the past, including his own parents, have been ‘given the freedom of walking about freely in the country’.
