At a meeting organised in Gampaha on Saturday, June 13, it was announced that the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) is prepared to rectify all issues and move forward.
Here are excerpts of views expressed by government and opposition representatives at several areas in the country.
Chief Minister of the Western Province, Prasanna Ranatunga stated they never expected Ranil Wickremesinghe to be the PM. He added that the nation has identified that Mahinda Rajapaksa should be the Prime Minister.
Deputy Minister of Policy Planning and Economic Affairs, Harsha de Silva stated that there is no need to cut off electricity supply to the places visited by the former president. He added that he should have the ability to move about as a free citizen in this democratic country.
State Minister of Children’s Affairs, Rosy Senanayake stated the former president did not step on to any stage but instead he had only gone to close the stage in Matara. She added that he is afraid that the opportunity for some to move further in the SLFP will be obstructed.
Minister of Irrigation, Vijith Wijeyamuni Soysa stated that if the elections can be won citing large crowds who arrive for meetings, Mahinda Rajapaksa would have won twice, for the numbers attending that meeting.
He added that there are four things that are inherent for politicians – being in the government or the opposition and either home or prison. He went on to note that he doesn’t mind to which sector he goes to since he is looking forward to all four.
Minister of Social Services, Welfare and Livestock Development, P. Harrison stated that the former president is playing the part of “Kusa Pabawathi” since he secretly peeks at his stage while travelling across the country.
He went on to note that if a person goes into retirement they should stay as they are.
