Police Headquarters stated that a principal of a school in the Madawala area in Waththegama has been arrested on charges of beating a student in the same school.
Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the principal was arrested based on a complaint lodged by the father of a female student who was studying in Grade 13.
The complaint was lodged as the principal had allegedly hit her with a stick on June 11. The principal had arrived at the police station on Friday to examine the case. She was arrested and produced before the magistrate.
The arrested principal was granted a surety bail of Rs. 100,000 each after being produced to the magistrate. The father of student stated that the student was hit after being held by her hair regarding an incident related to the disposal of garbage.
She had thereafter fallen down.
