Minister of Sports and Tourism Navin Dissanayake, speaking at the third annual convocation of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka on June 9, stated that accountants must strive to protect the integrity of their profession.
He added that in order to protect the profession and its integrity, one must always understand the professional standards that are needed from individuals and must uphold the profession to its highest, noblest and purest form.
He added that this has to be done because, too often, it has been seen as a politician, values being compromised, quick bucks being made, winks and handshakes being done to compromise the professional integrity of the profession and ultimately one must answer for themselves. He said that silent, lonely, decision of consciousness will be the ultimate arbiter of what is done and if its correct or wrong.
Around 3,000 graduates were presented certificates at the event.
