Mankulam accident injures 35 after driver falls asleep

One person was killed and 35 others were injured in a bus accident in the Panichchamkulam area in Mankulam early June 2 morning.

The Police Media Unit said that the accident occurred when a luxury bus plying from Jaffna to Colombo crashed into a stationary lorry and toppled. The injured have been admitted to the Kilinochchi Hospital.

Police added that the accident had taken place between 3:30 and 4 a.m.

Meanwhile, 20 people were injured in a motor accident involving a private bus in the Beragala area in Haputale. Police said the accident occurred when the driver of the bus, which was plying from Colombo to Badulla, had fallen asleep on the wheel and ran into an earth embankment on the left side of the road at around 9:20 p.m.

The injured have been admitted to hospitals in Haputale.
