Three teams commence investigations into recent incidents in Jaffna

Three teams have commenced investigations into the incidents that have transpired in Jaffna during the past days. Police Headquarters stated that the Criminal Investigation Department, the Colombo Crimes Division and Special Investigations Unit have initiated investigations.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara says that investigations into the murder of the school girl have been handed over the Crimes Investigation Division.

He added that officials of the CID are visiting the area and are continuing investigations into the incident. Likewise, officials of the Colombo Crimes Investigation Division have been sent to the area to investigate into the damage caused to state property in Jaffna, when protesters behaved in an unruly manner. The Special Investigation Unit has been deployed to look into the aftermath of the murder in Jaffna.

ASP Ruwan Gunasekara added that these police teams have been deployed under the instructions of the IGP and that the situation in Jaffna is peaceful at present.
