Committee to inquire into alleged irregularities in Treasury bond issue

A committee comprising of government and opposition representation was appointed on Friday to inquire into the alleged irregularities said to have taken place over the treasury bond issue, and report on the matter within two weeks.

The Speaker made the appointment, taking in to account a proposal that was presented in Parliament. This committee which has been appointed as a sub-committee to COPE which will be chaired by Parliamentarian D.E.W.Gunasekera.

The Committee includes MPs Sunil Handunnetti , Lasantha Alagiyawanna, Susil Premajayantha , Hassan Ali, Saravanabavan, Weerakumara Dissanayake and Minister Rajitha Senaratne, Arjuna Ranatunga, Eran Wickremeratne and Sujeewa Senasinghe and State Minister Rosy Senanayake

Sources have stated the Speaker had decided to appoint this committee with the aim of making provision for the accused MPs and the accused officers, to present facts.
