Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala De Silva issued a communique on Thursday (May 21st) stating that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, has no right to remain in the position of Prime Minister. He adds that it is disappointing to see Ranil Wickremesinghe portray a public mandate, which he does not possess, by making political challenges.
The opposition leader points out that the Prime Minister cannot suppress the operations of the Opposition by making threats against him. The communique issued by the Opposition Leader also notes that the United National Party (UNP), is portraying various forms of large-scale bribery and corruption through the media and that it has failed to convict any one of those said individuals before the judiciary.
The statement read further that through the manipulation of the Financial Crimes Investigation Division, simple civil cases are cited as criminal cases and this is used to place persons in remand custody adding that this amounts to acts of political revenge.
Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala De Silva concludes his communique by stating that the people would provide the appropriate response at the upcoming general election.
