An incident has been reported where the driver of a Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) bus was attacked by a conductor of a private bus in the Kiwu-linda area following an argument between the two.
Both buses had been operating on the Kandy-Padiyathelalla road. The assaulted driver is currently receiving treatment at the Vimarassana Divisional Hospital.
Speaking to News 1st Transport Manager of the Hanguranketha SLTB Bus Depot, Palitha Bandara Weerasooriya noted that the SLTB employees have become agitated. He noted that they are continuing bus services as usual with the utmost difficulty.
SLTB workers who were angered by the incident, had parked their buses across the road close to the Hanguranketha bus stop in a successful attempt to stop the private bus, in which, the conductor in question served. According to our correspondent, the conductor who had assaulted the SLTB bus driver had fled when the incident occurred.
The private bus was later released through the intervention of the Police, however the conductor of the private bus is yet to be taken into custody.
