Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, made a startling revelations regarding attempts made to bribe Ministers in order to suppress investigations into fraud and corruption.
The Minister made these revelations while addressing the Cabinet media briefing on Thursday (May 14).
Speaking at the occasion the Minister stated that he is saddened as one arm of Good governance is not functioning in a proper manner, he noted that there are many more persons similar to drug kingpin wele suda who are yet to be brought before the law.
He noted that certain media institutions take steps to attack him when he speaks on drugs because they are being run by individuals connected to drug racketeering, stock market fraud or the casino trade. The Minister remarked that individuals who manipulate the media in this manner are extremely rich.
According to Dr. Rajitha Senaratne certain individuals attempted to bribe him in-order to buy two weeks of silence with regard to a certain issue. The Minister noted that he did not remain silent adding that he is in possession of recordings which detail the attempted bribe.
The Cabinet media Spokesperson also revealed that an attempt had been made to pay off a certain Minister with Rs. 300 million
