The Ranbhumi rally for unity which is spreading the message of peace to every nook and cranny in the island reached Batticaloa this evening.

The Ranbhumi rally for unity began day 8, following religious observances at the Koneswaram Kovil in Trincomalee this morning. Subsequently, a ceremony was also held in the Trincomalee town.

The Sinhala, Muslim and Tamil communities joined hands with the unity rally, to spread the message of peace. The Ranbhumi rally for unity traveled across Sri Lanka’s longest bridge – the Kinniya bridge and reached its next stop, Valachchenai.

The people of Valachchenai too etched their mark to the national peace building effort undertaken by the Ranbhumi rally for unity. The program, the first of its kind in Sri Lanka symbolizing national unity and reconciliation reached its final destination for the day, Batticaloa this evening.

A ceremony highlighting the pride of Batticaloa welcomed the rally making their contribution to national development casting aside race and religion.

The Ranbhumi rally for unity organized by the MTV/MBC networks, News1st, Colombo Port City and the National Youth Services Council which will travel across villages and towns for 40 days will leave for Kalmunai tomorrow morning and head towards Ampara.
