President Maithripala Sirisena says that everyone in the Cabinet is free to do their duty using their knowledge, intelligence and experience. The President made this statement at an event held at Temple Trees on Tuesday (May 12th).

The event organized by the Government Nursing Officers Association in line with the International Day for Nurses was held under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena. The event was also graced by Prime Minister Ranil Wickrememsinghe and the Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne.

Speaking at the event Minister of Health and Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne noted that the attitude towards Trade unions has changed with the change in administration. The Minister noted that they are now able to discuss trade union issues freely and resolve them. Dr. Senaratne noted that the difference between the past and the present is that today there is an Executive President and not a King.

President Sirisena speaking at the occasion reminisced at how meeting with trade union leaders were looked upon at under the previous regime. He noted that while serving as the Minister of Health if he met with any trade union leaders, the following day he would receive a telephone call from Temple Trees questioning his actions.
