Minister of Health and Indigenous medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne says that Sri Lankans have gotten used to leaders who act like thugs.
Addressing an event held to declare open the library of the Bandanagoda Junior School in Beruwala, Minister Rajitha Senarathne noted that local government institutions would be dissolved by the 15th of May. He noted that even though elections for local government authorities were to be held by the 30th of March, a decision was made to extend their tenure by one and a half months in-order to see if the local politicians were able to adopt to the principals of good governance. However the minister stated that no visible change could be seen in the actions of the local politicians.
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne also noted that when leaders act with a bit of humanity some see this as weakness, reminiscing about the tenure of late Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranayake the minister stated that even he was ridiculed as a weak leader for his humane actions.
The Minister added that likewise individuals have begun to describe the rule of President Maithripala Sirisena as spineless because the President since taking office has listened to the voices of many and acted with humaneness. Dr. Senaratne disputed these assumptions and stated that the President is ruling the country in a benevolent manner.
