Devotees were granted the opportunity from 3 p.m. on Monday to pay homage to and worship the Sacred Relics at the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya, organised by The Capital Maharaja Organisation Limited and John Keells Holdings PLC.
The Sacred Hair Relic of Lord Buddha and the relics of 14 Arahants, were placed in the special enclosure at the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya on Monday, May 04, following religious observances.
A long queue of devotees lined up from early Monday morning, to pay homage to the Sacred Relics and the relics of 14 Arahants including Seevali, Ananda and Angulimala.
Ven. Wathurakumbure Dhammarathana Thera from the Yatihalagala Raja Maha Viharaya stated that the worship of the Sacred Relics of Sariputta and Mogallana two of Lord Buddha’s closest disciples commenced following religious observances on Monday afternoon.
Special religious observances for the Agrashawaka relics, were conducted by the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Society, Venerable Banagala Upatissa Thera.
Chairman of the Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Society Venerable Banagala Upatissa Thera noted that people who had come from all corners of the country on Sunday, May 03 and waited patiently for their opportunity to pay homage to the sacred relics.
He went on to note that arrangements have been made for devotees to worship the relics until midnight on Monday, May 04 as well.
