The digital tele Thorana at the Sirasa Vesak Zone, another unique creation, was switched on ceremonially on Monday, May 04 by Ajit Gunewardene, Deputy Chairman of John Keells Holdings PLC.
Ajit Gunewardene, first laid floral tributes at the foot of the standing statue of Lord Buddha and thereafter ceremonially switched on the digital tele Thorana, for the second night.
The decorative lights at the Vesak Kalapaya were ceremonially switched on by Thilina Wewelpanawa, Public Relations Officer at the Ministry of Defence. This unique Thorana, brings to life the Sanjeewaka and Vedabbha Jathakas and the story of Sariputta and Moggallana where the creative inputs came from artists Peliyagoda Dayananda, Ariyasiri Kodituwakku and Susil Jayantha.
Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka opened the dhansalas that have been organised this time to satiate the hunger and quench the thirst of the countless devotees visiting the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya. The rice dhansala is open until dawn, accompanied by dhansalas serving tea, herbal drinks and soft drinks.
The Dhampal Riya or Sobhana Maligaya, utilised by the Late Anagarika Dharmapala to spread the message of the Dhamma, is also on display at the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya. This unique vehicle was provided to the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya to be put on display, by the Sri Lanka Maha Bodhi Society, which is the custodian of the vehicle at the Agrashawaka Maha Viharaya in Maligakanda.
The performances of songs of devotion by various popular singers has also won the hearts of visitors to the Sirasa Vesak Kalapaya.
