The residents of the Dhiminiyathenna and Kiriwanagama areas expressed fears of their houses being destroyed owing to possible landslides which might occur in the Haldamulla area.
They stated that although they relocated to safer areas during the heavy rainfall, the fact that they might lose their houses was still a very real fear .
The residents claimed that the authorities of the area have not yet provided any solution to the risks of landslides nor have they provided any provisions or relief to the residents.
However, Assistant director of the Disaster Management Centre in Badulla, E.L.M Udayakumara stated that after relocating the residents to safer areas, meals and dry rations were provided.
He added that steps are being taken to provide the residents with alternate land.
