Delivering a statement in Colombo on the evening of Saturday May 2, visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that no nation, including the United States has a perfect record on human rights.
He said that problems of Sri Lanka are clearly going to be solved by Sri Lankans. That is the way it ought to be but it is also the only way that is going to work.
Speaking further, he said that if there are steps that United States can take to help, they will do so. The US Secretary of State also added that new government which has been elected is laser-focused on establishing a strong reputation for the country on human rights and the United States could not be more supportive of that goal.
The US Secretary of State pointed out that no nation, including the United States has a perfect record on human rights, adding that we all have to do our best in order to improve – and he hopes that the momentum that is created in Sri Lanka will continue.
