Police officers injured in protest near UGC remain hospitalised

Two police officers-  Police OIC attached to the Cinnamon Garden Police and a sub inspector attached to the Dematagoda Police, sustained injuries on Wednesday when attempting to prevent a group of protesters who forcibly entered the premises of the  University Grants Commission.

According to the Police Media Unit, the Sub Inspector who is receiving treatment at the National Hospital in Colombo had undergone surgery and the Police OIC is being treated at the Police Hospital.

Leader of the New Sama Samaja Party, Dr. Wickramabahu Karunaratne speaking on the protest stated that it is the prime minister that exercises the powers vested in the president. He further added that the first incident under ‘King’ Ranil’s watch was the teargas attack on monks who are religious leaders. He went on to state that the attack is a serious wrong committed by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe
