Two hundred and fifteen (215) parliamentarians backed the 19th Amendment to the Constitution in the second reading.

One parliamentarian voted against while one abstained.

Seven parliamentarians were reported absent during the second reading vote of the 19th Amendment.

Following the vote, the house was adjourned for 15 minutes, following a request made by MP Dinesh Gunawardena for copies of all committee stage amendments to be made to the Bill, to be presented to MP’s in all three languages.

The committee stage debate is currently underway.
