Speaking at a press conference held in Colombo to clarify facts regarding the 19th Amendment to the Constitution,  Leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that the UNP is trying to approve the 19th Amendment and “mock us.”

Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala De Silva stated that the President summoned Ranil Wickremesinghe and the Leader of the House. He said:

It is after this that the United National Party will be able to extract this and then participate in the debate on Monday, April 27 and Tuesday, April 28. They completely refused this initially. They said that this has to finish within the day itself and  said that it has to be presented on that very same day. So, the opposition has emerged victorious at this instance. The United National Party was defeated. the UNP is trying to approve this and are trying to mock us. Because the UNP is afraid of the new electoral system. We, the SLFP, are not stupid to get entangled in their knots. That is why we stated that both needs to be approved at the same time.
