The Association of Government Registered and Assistant Medical Officers have commenced a token strike on Wednesday, April 22.

The protesters stated that the strike comes in the wake of “illegal transfers” made for the year 2015, thus violating the policies adhered to when making such transfers.

The Secretary of the Association of Government Registered and Assistant Medical Officers, Dr. C.W.S. Kumarage allege that these transfers were made illegally without complying with the rules and regulations.

The following allegations were made – that the Director General of Medical Services of the Western Province issued the transfers on  April 2, whereas it should have been given in January. A request was made to her regarding this matter previously as well but it wasn’t taken into consideration which has led to this strike, which is scheduled to go on until the transfers are removed. The strike is expected to be carried out at all base hospitals and district hospitals in the Western Province.
