The National Building Research Organisation states that the risk of landslides persists in six districts due to the inclement weather conditions experienced over the country.
Director of the the Landslide Monitoring Unit R.M.S. Bandara says that warnings have been issued to the districts of Ratnapura, Kandy, Badulla, Kalutara, Matara and Galle.
Director- Landslide Monitoring Unit R.M.S. Bandara noted that landslide warnings were issued to six districts namely Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Badulla and Kandy districts on Tuesday, April 21 from 6 p.m to 6 p.m. on Thursday, April 22.
Within the Badulla district, areas of Haldamulla, Passara and Bandarawela have been identified as landslide prone areas.
Furthermore, the areas of Imbulpe,Balangoda, Palmadulla, Elapatha and Kalawana Divisional Secretariats which fall under the preview of the Ratnapura district have also been issued landslide warnings. Landslide warnings have also been issued to several divisional secretariats including Ingiriya in the Kalutara District.
In the Galle district, areas of Thawalama have been as landslide prone areas. In the Matara District, the areas of Pitabaddara,Mulathiyana have also been issued warnings.
Meanwhile, the Udumahanuwara divisional secretariat which falls under the Kandy district is considered as a landslide prone area. The public have been asked to be cautious when travelling along the Ella-Wellawaya road and Mahiyanaganaya-Kandy road as there is a risk of landslides and rock slides occurring in the ares owing to the inclement weather condition.
