Deputy Speaker of Parliament Chandima Weerakkody has said that the Draft Bill on the 19th Amendment to the Constitution will be presented to Parliament on Monday, April 20.
He stated that a final decision regarding the bill will be taken on Monday morning, following the meeting of party leaders, which is due to take place on Sunday April 19 at the Presidential Secretariat The meeting will be headed by President Mathripala Sirisena.
Meanwhile, the Jathika Hela Urumaya says that they, as a party, have not arrived at a decision as yet with regard to the Draft Bill on the 19th Amendment to the Constitution.
Media Spokesperson of the Party, Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe, stated that they will arrive at a decision after garnering a better understanding of the situation at the party leaders’ meeting.
He also said that the current stance of the Jathika Hela Urumaya is that the draft bill of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution must be presented along with the amendment to the electoral system.
