The national oil-anointing ceremony which was held in Polonnaruwa at the Kanduruwela Jayanthi Viharaya was celebrated under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.

Subsequent to the ceremony, the President went on to have cordial discussions with the locals who were present.

The anointing of oil for the Sinhala and Hindu New Year was marked at the auspicious time of 9.06 on the morning April 15.
