Mahinda Rajapaksa asked me to take over the party: President Sirisena

President Maithripala Sirisena made a statement at the SLFP Representatives Conference at the Maliyadeva Girls School in Kurunegala. He stated in his capacity as President of the SLFP on Thursday April 9, that it is his intention to take the party forward, with unity among all.

SLFP patron and former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. SLFP MPs from the Kurunegala District, were present at the occasion.

SLFP General Secretary Anura Priyadarshana Yapa noted that they will need the support of all to give the people a SLFP Alliance Government.  He stated that ‘therefore sacrifices will be made and reach consensus and make adjustments.’

President Maithripala Sirisena stated that Mahinda Rajapaksa asked him to asked him to take over the party and questioned whether the office bearers would be changed. He said that nobody was changed and that in fact promotions were given to them since they all have love for the party and the country.

He stated that decisions will be made in the Executive Council since it is a broader entity and thus all the people should be brought together to make the  SLFP victorious.
