The Cabinet sub-committee appointed to examine the controversial Uma Oya Project has held discussions with the Central Environment Authority and the expert committee appointed to study the project.
Secretary of the Ministry of Mahaweli Development and Environment Nihal Rupasinghe said questions were raised at these talks, on the environment impact assessment carried out on the project.
Rupasinghe noted that extensive inquiries had been made into the contents of the expert committee report and from the committee members themselves.
A report by the Cabinet sub-committee on the Uma Oya project will be submitted to the Cabinet within the next two weeks.
The Secretary added that the decision on a future course of action for the Uma Oya Project will depend on the contents of the sub committee’s report.
