The Paddy Marketing Board says that steps are being taken to provide farmers with arrears pertaining to the purchase of paddy through the relevant district secretaries.
The farmers engaged in demonstrations over the past few days stating that the government had not provided money in exchange for the purchase of their harvest.
Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board M.B. Dissanayake stated that the Treasury is owed an amount of Rs.500 million, and that once it is received, the arrears will be paid to the farmers.
