Sri Lanka’s Former Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Tamara Kunanayakam says she will initiate legal action against Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera.
She made this statement at a media briefing held in Colombo on Saturday.
This media briefing was convened to respond to an allegation made by Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, who claimed that Tamara Kunanayakam had connections with the LTTE.
As regard, MP Prof. Rajiva Wijesinha said that he is shocked about Mangala Samaraweera’s allegations.
He questioned why did Mangala Samaraweera level such false accusation while he is well aware of Tamara Kunanayakam has never had connections with the LTTE.
He went on to say that when a financial problem is put forward, it is not good governance to level other accusations at people. This is what happened under the previous government.
Political Analyst, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka said that it is totally unethical for Mangala Samaraweera to blatantly lie about a former ambassador who served the country.
If the Foreign Minister, says things like this about a former ambassador, then will anything he says on behalf of the country be accepted anywhere in the world, asked Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka.
Professor Rajiva Wijesinha also spoke on the appointment of former foreign secretary and former Permanent Representative in Geneva, Kshenuka Seneviratne, as the Sri Lankan Ambassador to Thailand.
He questioned how Kshenuka Seneviratne can be sent abroad.
Government power and power in the ministry was centred around Kshenuka Seneviratne and Sajin Vass Gunawardena under the previous government. So I asked Mangala if he did not look into all that she did against Chris Nonis, added Professor Rajiva Wijesinha.
