A programme to handover a nutrition pack worth Rs.2000 to mothers will commence in Polonnaruwa on Saturday under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena.
State Minister of Children’s Affairs Rosy Senanayake stated that this programme, which will commence on Saturday, will also be held at maternity clinics across the country
Minister Rosy Senanayake said:
The distribution of 200 nutrition packs to mothers will take place at 10 a.m. in Polonnaruwa on Saturday under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena and the Prime Minister.
The Minister said:
We are planning on commencing this programme at all maternity clinics around the island.
She further added that Ministry has made arrangements to provide these nutrition packs for expectant mothers, four months into conceiving and during the expecting time frame and four months after delivery.
The Minister went on to observe that one out of five infants born are underweight and those children born under-weight have to undergo several deformities.
