One person was killed and four others were left injured following a shooting at a public school in Brazil on Thursday March 12.

Reports stated that the injured -two teenage students, a teacher and the vice principal of the school- are currently being treated at a local hospital. Two students have sustained minor injuries and the vice principal was treated for the bullet wound in his leg. The condition of the other teacher, however, is not known.

The incident apparently had started outside the school shortly after class was dismissed.

Twenty year old Bruno Alves de Souza, who died in the incident had entered the school in order to take refuge from a group of gunmen who opened fire on him as he was walking nearby in the area where the school is located in the city of Betim outside Belo Horizonte, the capital of the state of Minas Gerais.

The group of five armed attackers reportedly followed the victim into the school where they shot him dead, injuring four in the process. The authorities are hoping the security cameras would help them identify those involved in the shooting.
