Elephant performances which were suspended at the Dehiwela Zoo will recommence on Friday (6th March).
Director General of the Department of National Zoological Gardens Anura De Silva said that the first phase of the performances will take place on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Officials suspended the performances in April last year after it was suspected that the elephants were suffering from tuberculosis.
Investigations cast doubts that 8 of the Elephants at the National Zoo were suffering from tuberculosis, treatment commenced and by December last year these elephants were once against subject to medical examinations.
The Director General went on to say that test have proved that the germ causing tuberculosis was no longer affecting the elephants and as a result a decision was taken to resume the performances.
